Muda – Mura – Muri are the three types of waste in Lean manufacturing.
For those working in manufacturing companies, especially in Japanese enterprises, the concept of the 3M is certainly familiar.
Not only Japanese businesses, but many other companies, especially multinational corporations, are increasingly focusing on the 3M.

  • So what are the 3Ms in Lean Management – Lean manufacturing?
– The 3M technique is primarily applied in TPS = Toyota Production System.
– 3M stands for Muri, Mura, Muda – these are Japanese terms.
– The goal of Lean manufacturing is to bring more value to customers by eliminating wastefulness in the production process.
  • First, let’s understand the concept of MUDA.
Muda is a Japanese word meaning “useless; futile; wasteful,” and it’s an important concept in lean process thinking, much like the Toyota Production System, one of the three types of deviation from optimal resource allocation.
  • The 7 types of Muda (waste) in Lean manufacturing include:
